THEOPHIL MAGUS – LIVING IN AMERICA  or 101 BREATHINGS

Leonard Oprea created the Breathing, an original type of essay in Romanian and world literature

The Breathing is a short, simple yet profound meditation on human condition, a meditation ended by a haiku. But – this haiku does not finish the meditation. In fact, it RE-opens this reflection to new questions and responses on human destiny. There are 100 Breathings in Leonard Oprea’s work „Theophil Magus – Confessions 2004 – 2006”, ed. „Universal Dalsi”, 2007, Romania.

This sui-generis blues & jazz symphony about the USA today, at the beginning of the third Millennium , I dedicated to the following beloved: Anna-Maria & Brigitte.

To Mitea Zaitsev.

Also, to Father Raymond Picard, Aura Imbarus, Ian Albrecht and Garry Lawless.

Sometimes, like today, now, I am trying pretty hard to live a dream:

… Lord take my heart and let it fly…

… over the plains and rivers

… over the deserts and oases

… over the hills and lakes

… over the forests and seas

… over the mountains and oceans

… over the world

… to be good – or better.

Yet, I have to confess: I’m human.

“… sparkling on the rocks

the river sings the sunshine,

with his magic flute…”

Across the centuries the East-European wisdom created these simple and profound and godly words: not everything that flies is to be eaten…

Nice. But, looking around, to this beginning of the 21st Century, it seems that is not at all the best key for an easy and fast success, doesn’t matter the area of application.

Therefore, mutatis mutandis, according to the present world’s needs, through all modern political and mass-media tools, the 21st Century’s American politicians practice splendidly a very pragmatic interpretation of the old European wisdom. It sounds like this: everything that flies is to be eaten, if everything that flies is voted for the people…

“…hard rain over the hills…

…two swans on the silver lake …

…the old forest’s blues…”

Sometimes life sucks for you.

Sometimes death sucks for you.

Sometimes it’s no forgiveness in you.

Sometimes it’s no love in you.

Sometimes it’s no hope in you.

Sometimes it’s no prayer in you.

Sometimes, it’s no child in you.

Sometimes, it’s no heart in you.

Sometimes, sucks is the whole you.

Sometimes, where is God? ask you.

Sometimes sucks – blow up when you…

Sometimes at least, call Jesus to be you.

“… there is less shadow

under the ill oak… this spring,

still, look! some green leafs…”

In the Genesis it is written: So God created man in his own image. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. And, the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto man. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

All right. Question: why then especially the 21st Century’s woman disagrees so categorically with Adam, implicitly disagrees with God, concerning her divine and indivisible unity with the man? (Also, Jesus reminds us that this is God’s law of the sacred marriage.)

In my opinion there are two causes: first – Eve built across the centuries a firm conviction: that rib was just a bone of Adam, nothing else. So, using that rib as any other brut material, God created actually an other human kind, different from man. And this other human kind, secretly, Eve baptized “God-as-a-woman”. And today this conviction became lethal. The second cause – Adam still do not understand how is possible that bone from his bones, flesh from his flesh, God from his God… could be anything else, but Love. And today this sadness became lethal.

“… the Miles Davis cool jazz…

… outside is raining in this

foggy August night…”

The Holy Mother Mary, the Lord Jesus Christ and The Holy Father Joseph.

Yes, this is the Holy Family. Amen.

I do not know how many of us – today, probably around one billion of Christians – celebrate the Holy Family, not like a Christian Church feast, but through our daily family life. Potentially, every woman is the Mother Mary, every man is Father Joseph, every child is Jesus Christ. Or, it should be like this. Yet, in my opinion – it could not be other way, if you indeed received Lord Jesus Christ into your heart, if you walk with Jesus daily.

But, yes – today, the modern people, the global America, we re-defined the family meaning. How? Unfortunately, by a huge desanctification of almost all traditional family’s values. And, the worst, first of all killing the family’s morale. “The single mother” became in the USA a venerated human condition of woman. No more less, the same for the American man. The rate of divorces is the highest world-wide, today in the USA. And, worst of the worst, the American Justice and Police systems support strongly and enthusiastically this modern kind of family. Why? Well, every divorce makes good profit for policemen, lawyers, judges and social services, and foster-houses, news-papers and TV-shows etc. An American divorce costs good money. They say, welcome Satan! Jesus replies, and you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down…

“… the wind blows out clouds,

brings stars… in this deep, dark night

over my island…”

So, what do you like the most?

The immense majority of people will answer to this question after they will think for, at least, a few… long instants. Long instants.

Because, through an unbreakable will and imparable demonstrations, continuing the heritage of the last two centuries , the 21st Century teaches us that there is no substantial differences between sciences and religion, between money and culture, between body-mind and Spirit, between good and evil, between God and Satan.

Therefore, we have to think long, long instants in order to make a choice about, what do we like the most, isn’t it?

And, the immense majority, finally will decide that life is too short for do not enjoy first of all the blessed pleasures of carnal senses, isn’t it?

Wow! Yes, Sir – life is too short and these are the beauty of life!

May the Lord let us to live our beautiful life according to our human will.

So, hello Cain, your time has come.

“… the fox crosses the road

under the lights of my car…

…full moon, summer heat…”

Neither for you, nor for me, for no one life is rightful to have it.

Life is a gift. Oh, yes, God’s gift for you, for me…

You can love it and to thank for it. You can hate it and reject it.

God’s gift of life is granted together with the Free Will. Always.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3; 16)

And, his only Son is the Son of Man as well.

Therefore, do not forget: God is God.

The American dream is irrefutably, today, the global Coca-cola reality.

“In God we trust” – is irrefutably, today, a dusty slogan on the dollar bills…

And the life is just God’s gift for you, for me…

The third millennium will be Christian or will be not.

“… night of August – see?

… myriad stars; the crickets…

…hear? what a quiet peace…”

… I love to die praying to be gifted by God to say, from the bottom of my heart, only these words:

I love you all… yesterday, today and forever. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

“… through the small window,

the light of August dawn tenders

the den I live in…”
